BIBLE STUDY - Mercy

If there is anything we should be grateful for in this life is mercy, or grace.  Weather we know it or not, its something we all want.  We might not admit it.  Even might feel like we don't deserve it.  But God is full of grace and mercy.  What a better example?  In Luke 15, starting in verse 11, Jesus tells The Parable of the Lost Son.  In the story Jesus illustrates the grace of God.  Even in our day to day lives it is hard to show mercy.  See what it says in Luke 6:35-36 "But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back.  Then your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High, because he is kind to the ungrateful and wicked.  Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful."  The big part is the last sentence or last verse.  Even though, that girl at school really gets on your nerves or some kid wont stop following you.  Hey, just show them some mercy.  Maybe they just need a friend.  God has shown us grace in more ways than we know.  In 1 Timothy, Paul is talking to Timothy about the grace of God in his life.  Chapter 1:13-14 "Even though I was once a blasphemer and a persecutor and a violent man, I was shown mercy because I acted in ignorance and unbelief.  The grace of our Lord was poured out on me abundantly, along with the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus."  Wow.  Knowing what a man Paul was and then who he became to be is amazing.  And it was all through the mercy of God.  Then the next tow verses, 1:15-16 "Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners—of whom I am the worst.  But for that very reason I was shown mercy so that in me, the worst of sinners, Christ Jesus might display his immense patience an example for those who would believe in him and receive eternal life."  Even in the old testament God is showing mercy.  Micah 7:1 "What misery is mine!  I am like one who gathers summer fruit  at the gleaning of the vineyard; there is no cluster of grapes to eat, none of the early figs that I crave."  The rest of the chapter talking of horrible things that have come over Israel.  But in 7:7 "But as for me, I watch in hope for the LordI wait for God my Savior;  my God will hear me." So think on that.  How today, can you show mercy in a situation.  Just remember that God has always got your back.
