Bible Study - The Most Important Thing
The more I get to know God and his word, I'm seeing that everything comes down to love. According to Corinthians 13:1-13 "If I speak with human eloquence and angelic ecstasy but don't love,
I'm nothing but the creaking of a rusty gate. If I speak God's Word with
power, revealing all his mysteries and making everything plain as day,
and if I have faith that says to a mountain, "Jump," and it jumps, but I
don't love, I'm nothing. If I give everything I own to the poor and
even go to the stake to be burned as a martyr, but I don't love, I've
gotten nowhere. So, no matter what I say, what I believe, and what I do,
I'm bankrupt without love." Um, wow. No matter what we do, we are bankrupt without love. Bankrupt. That's in the Bible, kids! And it's not the only place that says that too! In Colossians chapter 3:12-14, Paul is addressing the the Colossians about the way to act. He says to them "Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity." Again, love is the most important thing. Have you ever heard the saying "Love makes the world go round?' Well, although it is SO cliche, I think there is a little bit of truth to that, however, I think it would be a little more accurate to say that love is what holds the world together. Needless to say, we need to love each other! But not that fake love that we see so often. "Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres." (1 Corinthians 13:4-7) We should love everyone like that! Not fake, selfish love, but the love described in this verse. Okay, now I know this isn't a real exciting Bible study, but here is something that should excite you. God is love. So every spot in that verse that says "Love is" you can substitute God's name. God is patient. God is kind. And he loves you. Remember that throughout your day, and love because he has first loved you.
